When I first switched to Mac, I thought it was pretty strange that there was a key on the keyboard dedicated to ejecting the cdrom. It wasn't until I had been using OS X for quite some time that I realized that there was more to the eject key than met the eye. Enter: secret uses of the OS X eject key.
When coupled with a modifier key or two, the eject key unleashes the power harnessed within. Behold:
When holding Ctrl+Shift and pressing Eject, you can put your screen to sleep - saving you precious battery life.
When holding Option+Command and pressing Eject, you can put your computer to sleep all together.
Need to reboot, quickly, without going through the menu? Hold Ctrl+Command then hit Eject.
Finally, there's a key combination for shutting down too. Just hold Ctrl+Option+Command and hit Eject, and you're well on your way to...wait, why *would* you shut down?
Well, there you have it. Four secret uses of the OS X eject key.
